It's easy to burn out a motor by dropping unopened envelopes and junk mail into the shredder, which may contain more paper than the shredder can handle.
For your safety, never put your fingers or objects other than paper into the shredder feed opening.
Some materials to avoid shredding are paper clips, cardboard and heavy card stock. They may bend the teeth of the shredder and strain the motor.
