When looking at a scanners specifications, bear in mind that you can use a scanner at a lower resolution, but you cannot go higher.
To get the best scan possible, make sure your scanner settings are set correctly for that particular image type e.g. colour or b/w.
Bear in mind that the higher the resolution of a scan, the larger the file will be.
