Pay attention to the amount of paper you are shredding - all shredders only shred a certain quantity of paper at a time.
Some materials to avoid shredding are paper clips, cardboard and heavy card stock. They may bend the teeth of the shredder and strain the motor.
All shredders require periodic oiling in order to help remove dust and buildup on the blades which can otherwise lead to jamming or other mechanical problems.
