A lumen is a measure of the brightness of the projector.
If your projector is mounted to the ceiling, make sure it is not in direct line of heat or air vents.
Most projectors have a built-in lamp hour counter. It starts at zero when the projector is new, and should be reset when you change the projector lamp.
