Make sure that you clean the filters or your projector regularly. Many projectors will alert you to do so based upon usage hours. However, if your projector is in a dusty environment, you may want to clean the filters more often.
If your projector is left in a car when it's 40 degrees or below, it is possible the projector lamp will explode if you turn the projector on immediately. Allow your projector to warm up to room temperature before turning it on in order to avoid the dangerous scenario of the lamp exploding.
If your projector is mounted, ensure that it receives proper air circulation. Excessive heat can reduce the lamp life significantly.
