If you're looking for a scanner, your main concern should be the balance of scan quality and ease of use - the scanners that are simplest to use tend to have the lowest quality, unfortunately.
The optical resolution of your scanner is the most important factor in determining the level of quality your scans will have.
Handheld scanners are most appropriate for small originals that are no bigger than the scanner itself. In theory, hand scanners allow you to scan a large original in more than one pass and "stitch" the scans together into a final image, but this is not a preferable scanning method.
